Pappus

At first glance, Pappus appears as a quiet form - delicate, almost weightless - yet it is a deliberate invitation to pause and reconsider the small, often unseen moments in the natural world.

Modelled after the seed head of a dandelion, the sculpture draws its name from the botanical term “pappus,” referring to the fine filaments that carry each seed on the wind. Where most pass by a dandelion without a thought, Pappus offers a moment of stillness and reflection: a magnification of something easily overlooked, elevated here as both structure and symbol.

Each slender rod and disc is precisely formed from weathered steel, creating a skeletal bloom that appears to hover above the ground. Water trickles quietly through the piece, catching on the surfaces like morning dew or gentle rain. This subtle movement of water is not theatrical but contemplative - a reminder that art does not need to shout to be heard.

Pappus sits as both sculpture and water feature, embodying a philosophy of quiet appreciation. By enlarging something ephemeral and unnoticed, it challenges viewers to find beauty in the everyday. In a world that often favours the bold and the loud, Pappus stands instead for grace, for patience, and for the enduring poetry of nature’s smallest details.
