The Nest
Forged from interwoven ribbons of weathered steel, The Nest sits at the meeting point of form, function, and feeling. It is not just a fire pit; it is a sculptural centrepiece created to hold both flame and memory.
Inspired by the natural architecture of a bird’s nest, each steel strip has been individually shaped and layered by hand, evoking the quiet strength and considered chaos found in nature. Where a bird gathers twigs and branches to form shelter, The Nest gathers flames and logs, wrapping them in an embrace of rusted steel that echoes both protection and warmth.
The sculpture’s design invites conversation: the overlapping bands suggest flickering flames even when unlit, and the gaps between each strip allow light and air to pass through, creating ever-changing shadows that play across stone, timber, and planting. Over time, the weathered finish continues to evolve, deepening in colour and character with each season - reinforcing the piece’s connection to the living landscape around it.
The Nest is part of a wider exploration into functional sculpture - where the practical meets the poetic. Whether placed in a contemporary terrace or a wild meadow garden, its presence transforms a space from something simply seen into something truly experienced.
